Coranderrk's Conservation Management Plan

In 2019, we commissioned the preparation of a Conservation Management Plan (CMP) for Coranderrk, which has now been completed.

Fraser Brown of Quadratum has prepared this valuable resource for Wandoon Estate, which builds on the recent research undertaken by Nicola Stairmand to document Coranderrks’s built environment and the everyday life of the people who lived there. The final outcome of Nicola’s work, Coranderrk, yalingbuth, yalingbu, yirramboi is in the collection of the State Library of Victoria.

The CMP focuses on the buildings and provides a picture of the physical development and decline of Coranderrk.  It will assist us to plan and prioritise the conservation of the property. It summarises:

  • The chronological history of Coranderrk.

  • Identification of the location of demolished buildings using earlier archaeological studies.

  • A condition report and recommended works for the former Superintendent’s residence.

  • Conservation Policy and Protocols designed to provide practical guidance in the future conservation and management of Coranderrk, primarily focusing on the existing buildings.

The CMP is an internal working document as it contains sensitive cultural material.

Based on recommendations of the CMP, and dependent on the success of a current funding application, we hope to commence works at the Superintendent's house in 2021.
